Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started and join the team?

Contact the Club to learn how to check out a practice, and when our next class intake is. We start all new dogs out in an instructional class format, before moving on to Club and the tournament team for those who are interested!

We’re always looking for new members so we’ll get in touch as soon as possible.

How old does my dog need to be?

Dogs must be at least 12 months old to participate in Flyball. It’s important that your dog’s joints are fully developed before they join, to prevent injury from the high energy nature of Flyball. Mature healthy dogs are at very low risk for any injuries, and our sessions are designed to ensure safety of dogs and participants.

Dogs must be 15 months old in order to compete in a NAFA tournament.

Can we join as an individual / couple / family?

You certainly can! Your membership will cover everyone in your household. We encourage the family to participate - though it’s important to identify a single handler when you get into the more competitive levels.

Is it expensive?

We keep monthly club dues very low, in order to allow the most dogs to participate. Our membership dues cover the expenses the club incurs such as barn time.

What are the time commitments?

Our club trains weekly on Monday nights in the winter, and Sunday mornings in summer. Sessions are 60-90 minutes long. We encourage new dogs in particular to join every week, in order to build on their training and keep up with the rest of the class.

What skills will my dog learn?

Flyball is fantastic training not just for dogs looking to compete in races. Our training will teach dogs better obedience, control, how to socialize with a number of other dogs, and will teach handlers how to best work with their dogs. We’ve welcomed reactive dogs and other high energy breeds and are always amazed by the behavioural improvements that our dogs see when handlers stick with Flyball.

My dog is not ball / tug / treat motivated, can I still bring them?

Of course! We’ve developed ways to work with dogs of all sorts and motivations, and we can work with your dog as well. Some dogs are ball motivated, but all dogs will learn how to focus their attention in Flyball.
